Monrovia- The Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia and its network organizations is calling for the confirmation of all women candidates , so as to increase women's representation in government, both at the local and national levels.
To ensure their voices are heard, WONGOSOL and other women and men groups gathered at the Capitol Building on February 1, to show support for women nominated to serve in the Boakai-Koung's administration.
At the gathering, WONGOSOL along with other groups, could be heard chanting messages of advocacy and political inclusion. With placards in their hands, they called on senators to confirm all the women nominated by president Joseph Nyumah Boakai. According to them, those appointed are competent and can represent the women of Liberia in championing their cause for inclusion.
The Executive Director of WONGOSOL, Madam Esther Davis Yango, use the occassion to call on everyone to support Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, whose confirmation was scheduled for February 1, but send to Monday February 5, due to security reasons, as stated by senators in chambers.
Madam Yango at the same time urged all to turn out and support other women appointee at their confirmation hearings.
"As we join this movement, we call on all women advocacy groups to support a sister against stigmatization and bullying " Madam Yango said
She emphasized that the nominees represent the women of Liberia, and the strong turnout of women and other groups shows that cyber bullying against women, calls for action.
Madam Yango also wants Senators focus their questions on the nominees' capabilities rather than delving into their personal lives.
"We call on the senators to judge them by what they can do and not go person because most of the time, women are stereotyped " She noted
Also speaking, Liberia's culture ambassador, Madam Julie Endee, expressed gratitude to the women of Liberia for supporting Nyanti, describing her as capable and experienced.
The number of women present during this confirmation hearing of Madam Nyanti, sends a clear message that cyber bullying and stereotyping of women in public spaces must be eradicated, Madam Endee told newsmen. She further stated that Nyanti is the perfect candidate for the position, as she possesses the qualities needed to lead the institution effectively.
Madam Endee further stated: "We are not only going to be here today, but will show up until all our sisters are confirmed. We trust their abilities to handle the mantle of authority"
The Women's NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOl) is involved with creating an equitable society where women &girls human rights and dignity are promoted, respected and gender equality achieved. We also seek to empower women and girls; strengthen Network members capacity and promote the freedom and human rights of women and girls and other marginalized groups.
